The Antwerp Stadserre is conceived as a significant city asset for Antwerp Noord and Ringpark Groenendaal, one of six new ringparks that constitute ‘Over De Ring’, a city-wide project that will cover existing road and rail infrastructure with recreational spaces and civic amenities.
During the design of Ringpark Groenendaal, we proposed to encircle a large tunnel opening with educational and cultural program that could bring benefits to Antwerp at both a local and metropolitan scale.
The building is conceived as a series of greenhouses and botanical gardens that can hosts events, educational workshops, and seasonal activities. The evolving concept design demonstrates the versatility of a simple spatial solution that can accomodate multiple uses and development scenarios currently being discussed.
