21st Century Glasshouse Activates New Park with Spaces for Local and City Events

Conceived as a cultural greenhouse for the city, this lightweight structure colonizes one of the new parks in the northern part of Antwerp. This gigantic project supposes an enormous effort to bury an existing highway and transform the city through green areas and social infrastructure. As part of Team Noord, we participated in the design of one of the parks and were further appointed to develop the design for one of its key components: the Stadsserre.

During the park design, we proposed to take advantage of the engineering works- a tunnel opening, and its retaining walls- to create a new kind of public facility. The building is conceived as a atrium that acts on a metropolitan scale. Foreseen as an extension of the park, this light glazed struct will be able to hold events, workshops, and greenery. The concept shows the versatility of a simple solution that can host different uses and adapt to a staged development that integrates public and private investment.
